Jambalaya Recipe

Jambalaya with Bacon

Ingredients

8 slices of bacon (diced)
1 cup of onions (minced)
½ cup of ketchup
¼ cup of green bell pepper
2 cups of chicken broth
3 tbsp of cold water
2 tbsp of cornstarch
1 cup of ham (diced)
½ tsp of salt
½ tsp of pepper
1 lb of shrimp (medium, shelled)
1 tbsp of brown sugar
Cooked rice

Instructions

Cook the bacon in a skillet. Put the bacon in paper towels when it’s done. For this jambalaya recipe, you can cook the onions and bell pepper in the bacon juices. Cook until the pepper gets tender. Pour in the chicken broth. Toss in the ketchup and brown sugar. Put the cover on. Let it simmer for 15 minutes.

Slice the shrimp into small parts. Put the shrimp in the mix and beat it well. Add the cold water and cornstarch. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens. Add salt and pepper for more flavors. Pour this in a serving plate with the rice.

Jambalaya with Tomatoes

Ingredients

2 tbsp of vegetable oil
½ cup of red bell pepper
1 onion (medium, sliced)
2 cups of ham (cooked)
1 garlic clove
1 can of tomatoes (for this jambalaya recipe, it should be 14 ounces)
3/4 cup of uncooked rice (long grain)
2 ½ cups of water
1 can of tomato paste (6 ounces)
1 bay leaf
¼ tsp of pepper
¼ tsp of salt
1/3 tsp of thyme (dried)
1/8 tsp of cayenne pepper
1 lb of cooked shrimp

Instructions

Put the oil in a skillet and set it to medium heat. Add the ham and let it brown. Throw in the bell pepper and onions. Add the garlic. Keep cooking until it gets tender. Now add in the tomatoes, rice and bay leaf. Throw in the thyme, cayenne pepper, tomato paste and water.

Boil this mix then lower the heat. Allow it to simmer for 25 minutes. Stir it every now and then. Throw in the shrimp and heat it. Serve this with some garlic.

Spicy Jambalaya

Ingredients

1 tbsp of butter
1 red bell pepper (chopped)
1 tbsp of olive oil
2 onions (large, chopped)
2 garlic cloves (medium, minced)
½ tsp of thyme
2 cups of rice (uncooked)
2 cups of ham (cooked)
½ cup of chicken broth
½ tsp of salt
6 drops of hot pepper sauce
1 can (14.5 ounces) of diced tomatoes

Instructions

Put the butter in a saucepan. Heat it. Add the onions, garlic and bell pepper. Stir until the onion turns brown. Throw in the ham and rice. Continue stirring until the rice is covered with oil. Add the salt, thyme and tomatoes. Pour in the chicken broth. Add the hot sauce. Let it simmer for 25 minutes (covered).
