Turkey Chili Recipe

After Thanksgiving Day, turkey leftovers are very common and are most often anticipated. There are various ways to turn turkey leftovers into a delicious dish and one easy dish that you will definitely enjoy is the turkey chili. Here is a very easy recipe to turn your turkey leftovers into a mouthwatering turkey chili.

Ingredients

The ingredients for this very easy turkey chili recipe are two cups of chopped onion, four cloves of garlic that is finely chopped, one cup of chopped green pepper, one-fourth cup of olive oil, two pieces of 35 ounces can of stewed tomatoes that is crushed, two pieces of 15 ounces can of kidney beans that is drained, two tablespoons of tomato paste, three-fourth of a cup of turkey stock, two tablespoons of chili powder. You can add more tablespoons of chili powder if you want your turkey chili to really hot.

Other ingredients needed for this easy recipe are one tablespoon of ground cumin, one tablespoon of dried hot red pepper flakes, one teaspoon of dried oregano, one tablespoon of salt, half a teaspoon of black pepper, three to four cups of shredded and cooked turkey meat, and sugar.

You can use chopped red onion, shredded cheddar cheese, and sour cream for your garnish.

How to Cook Turkey Chili the Easy Way

Using a large pot with a thick-bottom, cook the green pepper and onion in medium high heat. Stir until they turn into golden brown and that would take about five minutes of cooking. Then add in the chili powder, garlic, red pepper flakes, and cumin and continue stirring to cook for one to two minutes. You can put in now the olive oil and add more olive oil only if necessary.

It is now time to put in the tomato paste, tomatoes, beans, turkey stock, oregano, pepper, salt, and shredded cooked turkey meat. Let the mixture simmer while setting the heat to low temperature. Let the turkey chili simmer for about an hour and do not cover it while doing so.

Add in the salt to taste and put in the sugar if you want to. You can use one to three teaspoons of sugar in order to balance the taste due to the acidity of the tomatoes.

Serve the turkey chili with chopped red onion, shredded cheddar cheese, and/or sour cream is ideal. You can also serve it on its own, as a rice topping, or together with some corn bread.

This easy recipe is estimated to make about 12 cups and can serve up to eight people during dinnertime.
